Shiatsu for Emotional Problems

Shiatsu is a physical therapy. A combination of massage like technique, stretches, joint rotations and subtle movement. Sounds great for physical problems like back ache, frozen shoulders or arthritis. But shiatsu can also help emotional issues too.

Shiatsu does not distinguish between the physical body and the mind in which our thoughts and emotions are conventionally said to reside. Instead shiatsu practitioners use a model of energy in a constant state of flux. One aspect of that energy is what we feel as a physical body and at the other end of the spectrum is the emotions and spiritual aspects of a person.

Because this energy is constantly shifting what happens at one level can affect deeper levels too. So a physical problem can if not treated properly can hurt us emotionally. Plus what we feel deep inside can be reflected on the outside.

As a shiatsu practitioner works they are aware that although they are using hand and fingers the connection goes deeper. Deeper than skin, muscles, or bone. The shiatsu connection is an energetic one and as such touches the whole being of their receiver.

Shiatsu is about sensitivity of touch and empathy with a receiver’s needs. A shiatsu practitioner must be able to deliver a treatment that responds to the specific needs of their receiver. To do this they must recognise not only physical responses under their hands but changes in their own emotional state. They must work with their own energy connected with the energy of their receiver.

Shiatsu is given at floor level. This means that both giver and receiver are both solidly rooted to the earth which is in itself deeply reassuring. Because the shiatsu practitioner is not having to lean over a table they can perfect a very solid but relaxed technique. They can also use their own bodies to add additional support to their client.

Reading this article is one thing and experiencing it is another. Being someone who suffers from various emotional issues due to life events I really thought there was no answer. Yes sometimes you need to use other therapies alongside such as counciling etc but the effect that Shiatsu has had on me is mind blowing. Alot of this i think is choosing the right practioner for you. Someone that can work with the emotions and tune into you. When I first tried Shiatsu and met Tony i was extreemly nervous and not quite sure if I was going to be able to let him treat me, what I found was infact that the shiatsu brought out loads of emotions in me which to my suprise Tony picked up on. Afterwards we talked and it was amazing to hear what he felt whilst treating me. I also found that I felt extreemly at ease with Tony due to his kind, caring, gentle and proffesional manner. Well that was almost a year ago now and I go for regular Shiatsu with Tony I am so grateful to him for all his patience with me and the work that he has done the time he has taken, the whole thing of discovering Tony and Shiatsu for me has been life changing. THANKYOU SO MUCH
