At Worthing Shiatsu my aim is to always make sure you that you get the right treatment. This is why I do not offer any discounts for bulk booking treatments. But it is important that when we meet for your first treatment we discuss how many treatments you might need in the future.
Acute and chronic problems
If you come to see me with an acute problem, for example a stiff neck that you have woken up with, then that discussion is simple. A single treatment may help you straight away but I might suggest two or three treatments would be beneficial.
A condition that you have lived with for a long time will require more treatment. Unfortunately, it might be that all that shiatsu can offer you is to reduce symptoms and help you manage the condition. And this makes judging the number of treatments difficult and I would not expect you to make an open ended commitment.
Setting your personal objectives
Chronic conditions affect the way you lead your life. They restrict what you can do and over time you may find that your outlook becomes more restricted. Therefore when you first come to see me I will ask if there is anything you want to do that we can work towards.
It might be you just want to reduce the number of pain killers you are taking. Or perhaps take the dog for a walk. Maybe kick a ball around the garden with the grand-children.
We will try to break down your big problem into small achievable objectives and set a time limit to do this.
Regular reviews
Using these objects we can regularly review your progress and judge how shiatsu is helping you. I think this approach helps us to see the benefits of shiatsu in a wider context and whether the focus of treatment needs to change. If we agree that shiatsu is not helping you then we can work together to find another approach or therapy that may do.
